How to Buy Wallpaper Like a Pro

1. Single vs Double Rolls

This is the most confusing part of buying paper.
Wallpaper is almost always priced by the Single Roll, but packaged as a **Double Roll** (Bolt).
Always check the roll length on the package. A double roll is typically 33 feet long. Our calculator assumes standard US double rolls if you enter 33ft.

2. The "Pattern Repeat" Trap

If your specific paper has a pattern (like flowers or damask) that repeats every 24 inches, you essentially lose a chunk of paper at the top of every strip to make the design line up.
Always enter the repeat in the calculator. It can increase your requirement by 15-20%.

FAQ

What is a pattern repeat?

The pattern repeat is the vertical distance between where the design becomes identical again. Large repeats (e.g., 20 inches) create more waste because you have to align adjacent strips perfectly.

How do I measure for a whole room?

Measure the total perimeter of the room (add all wall lengths together) and the ceiling height. Don't worry about deducting small windows/doors too precisely; it's better to have extra paper than to run short.

What is a standard roll size?

In the US, a standard single roll is 20.5 inches wide by 16.5 feet long (approx 28 sq ft). However, most wallpaper is sold in 'double rolls' which are 33 feet long (approx 56 sq ft).
