Square Fee Structure (2024)

Payment TypeRateFixed Fee
In-Person (Tap, Dip, Swipe)2.6%$0.10
Online (Invoices, eCommerce)2.9%$0.30
Manually Entered (Keyed-In)3.5%$0.15

Fee rates are subject to change. Always verify current rates on the official Square website.

How Square Fees Work

Square charges a percentage of each transaction plus a small fixed fee. The exact rate depends on how the payment is processed:

  • In-Person: When a customer taps, dips, or swipes their card using a Square reader.
  • Online: Payments made through Square Invoices, Square Online, or the eCommerce API.
  • Manually Entered: When you type in card details instead of using a reader.

Why Effective Rate Matters

The fixed per-transaction fee means that smaller transactions have a higher effective rate. For example, a $5 sale has a higher percentage cost than a $100 sale.
