Screen Sizes Explained

Understanding screen dimensions helps in planning room layouts, mounting TVs, or purchasing cases for devices. The most confusing aspect is that screens are sold by their diagonal size, but physical space constraints require knowing the width and height.

Common TV Sizes (Widths)

55" TV: ~48 inches wide (121 cm)
65" TV: ~57 inches wide (145 cm)
75" TV: ~65 inches wide (166 cm)
85" TV: ~74 inches wide (188 cm)

FAQ

How are TV screens measured?

Screens are always measured diagonally from corner to opposite corner. This measurement does NOT include the bezel (frame).

What is aspect ratio?

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between the width and height of a display. 16:9 is standard for modern TVs, while 21:9 is used for ultrawide monitors.

Why does a 55-inch 16:9 TV look smaller than a 55-inch 4:3 TV?

While the diagonal is the same, square-ish ratios (4:3) have more total screen area than wider ratios (16:9 or 21:9) for the same diagonal measure.
