Parallel Resistor Calculator

Calculate the total equivalent resistance of resistors connected in parallel.

Resistor Values

R1
Ω
R2
Ω

Enter resistance values in Ohms (Ω). You can add up to 6 resistors.

Equivalent Resistance

Total Resistance

500.000 Ω

Formula

1/Rtotal = 1/1000 + 1/1000

Current Distribution (at 1V)

R1 (1000 Ω)1.000 mA
R2 (1000 Ω)1.000 mA

Parallel Resistance Formula

When resistors are connected in parallel, the total resistance is always less than the smallest individual resistor. The formula is: 1/Rtotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + ... + 1/Rn

Why Use Parallel Resistors?

Parallel resistor configurations are used to achieve resistance values that aren't available as single components, to increase current-carrying capacity, and to create voltage dividers with specific properties.
