Understanding Healthy Weight
A healthy weight is considered one that is associated with the lowest risk of weight-related diseases and health issues. The most common metric used for this is the Body Mass Index (BMI).
Medical Standard Formulas
In addition to BMI, we display results from several classic formulas used in the medical field to determine "ideal" body weight (IBW).
- Devine Formula: Often used for calculating drug dosages.
- Robinson Formula: Adjusted from Devine to be slightly more accurate for modern populations.
- Miller Formula: Another variation often used in nutritional assessments.
Note: These formulas primarily use height and do not account for muscle mass or frame size.
