What is Density?

Density is a physical property of matter that describes how much mass is contained in a given volume. It's often used to identify substances, predict whether objects will float or sink, and in engineering calculations.

The Density Formula

ρ = m / V

Where:

  • ρ (rho) = Density (typically in g/cm³ or kg/m³)
  • m = Mass (typically in grams or kilograms)
  • V = Volume (typically in cm³ or m³)

Rearranged Formulas

  • To find mass: m = ρ × V
  • To find volume: V = m / ρ

Unit Conversions
