What is BAI?
The Body Adiposity Index (BAI) was proposed as an alternative to Body Mass Index (BMI). Unlike BMI, it does not use body weight, which can be misleading for very muscular individuals.
The Formula
BAI = (Hip Circumference / Height ^ 1.5) - 18
Where hip circumference is in centimeters and height is in meters.
Advantages over BMI
Studies suggest BAI can be more accurate than BMI in estimating body fat percentage, especially in populations where BMI data is less reliable. However, it still has limitations and should be used as one of various tools for health assessment.
